On Sunday, July 5th, the Cluster's traditional Football Tournament took place at Olton Friary, a day of joy, friendship, and sharing. Riding the wave of enthusiasm generated by the FIFA World Cup among football fans around the world, this was the third edition of the tournament, and it once again proved a resounding success.
The event was meticulously organized, confirming the high standard of previous editions. Adult teams from various parishes participated, while numerous supporters from across the Cluster cheered them on throughout the day. There were plenty of moments of fellowship, with refreshments provided for attendees, who also enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere and the charming spaces of Olton Friary. The tournament once again helped strengthen the bonds of friendship and fellowship between neighboring parishes.
The final saw teams from Holy Souls and Olton Friary face off. After a hard-fought and exciting match, Olton Friary emerged victorious, renewing the healthy and friendly sporting rivalry between the two communities. In previous editions, the trophy had been won by Wayside, last year's winner, and Holy Souls, the previous year's champion.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the Olton Friary Fundraising Committee, who expertly organised the entire event, ensuring that everything ran smoothly.
Alongside the football tournament, the Olton Friary gardening group held a plant sale following all three Eucharistic services of the day. The initiative, which featured a wide variety of plants, was a resounding success.
It was truly a wonderful day, combining sport, friendship, community spirit, and enhancing the spaces of Olton Friary. Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported the initiative. We're already planning next year, with the hope of experiencing another unforgettable tournament together.
